Freeze/Thaw: Sealers High traffic area such as malls and industrial areas the sealer should be checked every 2 years - 3 years do to the heavy auto traffic and forklift traffic. Residential sealers should be checked every 4-5 years. The same type sealers are used for industrial and residential. We do not skimp on materials. Sealers are inexpensive and must be applied when needed.
Cleaning and sealing stamped and colored concrete should
be done on a regular basis just like any other home maintenance. The
frequency will depend on how high a traffic area to cars, foot traffic,
water, and any chemicals the concrete is exposed to. StoneCoat
recommends resealing every 2 or 3 years. If you wait longer, you may
notice the color fading slightly from the sealer not protecting anymore,
however just like waxing a car, reseal your decorative concrete
and the color will be as vibrant as the day it was installed.

Typical Drive Way Stains
For fresh oil stains, apply some baking soda or cat litter (using cat litter, grind to powder with a brick) over the stain and rub into the surface - leave over night. Simply sweep up the next morning. For older more stubborn stains, use carburetor cleaner or industrial degreaser.
Wax on - Wax off
The best way to get long life out of your retractable steel tape measure is to stretch out the full length of the tape. Wipe it clean with a moist rag, then apply some car wax to the tape. Be sure to buff the wax off. This only takes a few minutes and your tape will roll up easier, longer and keep down rust and corrosion.
Quick Measurements
I carry a six-inch piece of old steel tape that I cut from a broken retractable tape measure, in my wallet. This is a handy tool for checking dimensions at the lumberyard or hardware store. Another handy use of a broken retractable tape is to cut lengths (HINT: cut at 10, 20 30 etc… for ease of reading) and mount it to your tool box, work table or cutting tables.
It's All In Your Perspective
When laying out walks and path ways in small yards you can create an illusion that the yard is bigger, by narrowing the walkway as it continues into the yard from the house. In other words: start the walkway at five feet wide and end it at four feet wide (NOTE: decrease the width gradually, one foot per forty feet of length - longer walks wouldn't need the perspective illusion).
WEEDS IN CONCRETE:
You can kill weeds growing up through cracks in your concrete by pouring boiling water on them. This is an environmentally friendly way to rid your self of the grasses and vegetation that tries to take over your walks and patios this summer. Just boil a soup pot ¾ full of water (careful this stuff is hot, don't splash it on yourself) and pour it over the plants - they will shrivel before your eyes! Follow that with some table salt and you should be done for the season.
WASP CATCHER
The smell of vinegar will attract wasps. Pour some vinegar in a long-necked bottle and they will crawl in and not be able to get out.
BLISTER BUSTER
Cut down on blisters from using your shovel, rake, hoe or pick by wrapping the handle with ordinary pipe insulation, the padding will help keep your hands free of blisters. Coat the handle with contact cement and then apply the insulation. See Spalling & Seal your Masonry
